Troubleshooting

The filter won't turn on

  1. Make sure you've granted Display over other apps for Night Screen: Android Settings → Apps → Night Screen → Display over other apps
  2. If you denied it once, open Night Screen and tap the toggle again - it prompts you to grant the permission, with an in-app tutorial if you need it

Auto Schedule doesn't turn on at Sunset Time or off at Morning Time

  1. Confirm Auto Schedule is switched on in Settings → Schedule, and that you've bought Pro
  2. Check your Sunset Time and Morning Time - these are clock times you set yourself, not your actual location-based sunset
  3. Make sure you haven't tapped Pause Until Tomorrow
  4. Disable battery optimisation for Night Screen (Settings → System → Disable Battery Optimization). Aggressive battery management, common on Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Realme and OnePlus devices, can stop the background check that watches for Sunset Time

The filter disappeared after I restarted my phone

Night Screen restarts the filter or Auto Schedule automatically after a restart, if it was on before. If it doesn't:

  1. Check battery optimisation is disabled for Night Screen, as above
  2. Some manufacturers also need an "autostart" permission enabled before an app can start itself after boot
  3. If you see a "Device Restarted" notification, tap it to reopen Night Screen and turn the filter back on manually

I keep being asked to upgrade

Auto Schedule is a Pro feature. Turning it on from the free plan shows an upgrade prompt instead of enabling it - this is expected. The three manual filter modes don't require Pro.

My purchase isn't recognised

  1. Confirm you're signed in to Google Play with the same Google account you purchased with
  2. Open the upgrade screen and tap Restore Purchases
  3. If it still doesn't show, contact us with your order number from Google Play

The daily reminder isn't showing up

  1. Confirm Daily Reminder is on and check its Reminder Time in Settings → Notifications
  2. The reminder is skipped automatically if Night Screen's filter is already running - that's expected, not a bug
  3. Check notification permission is granted for Night Screen, and that battery optimisation is disabled

A permission tutorial video won't load

Night Screen downloads the overlay-permission tutorial video for your phone automatically during setup, before you reach the permission screen. If you open the tutorial before that download has finished, or after it was interrupted, the App fetches the rest of your device-specific video from the same address, so you'll need an internet connection at that point; it falls back to a generic video if nothing had been cached yet. If a video doesn't load, the written steps above it still work.
