General¶
What is Night Screen?¶
A screen dimmer and blue light filter for Android. It draws a filter over your display so you can dim it below your phone's normal minimum brightness, warm its colours for night reading, or mix a custom tint - either manually or on an automatic schedule.
Which Android versions are supported?¶
Android 7.0 and later.
Is there an iOS version?¶
No. Night Screen is Android only.
Does dimming with an overlay damage my screen or change its hardware brightness?¶
No. The filter is a software layer drawn on top of your screen using Android's "display over other apps" permission. It doesn't touch your display's backlight or hardware, and turning the filter off returns your screen to normal immediately.
Filter modes¶
What's the difference between Dim Light, Blue Light Filter and Advanced?¶
Dim Light is a plain dark overlay for lowering brightness. Blue Light Filter adds a warm yellow-orange tint for night reading. Advanced gives you separate red, green and blue sliders to mix your own colour. See the User Guide for details.
Can Night Screen really make my screen dimmer than the lowest system setting?¶
Yes. Many phones stop your brightness slider well above true black so the screen stays readable. Night Screen's overlay sits on top of that, so it can dim further.
Will the blue light filter guarantee I sleep better?¶
We can't promise that. It shifts your screen to warmer colours, which some people find more comfortable in the evening, but research on blue light filtering and sleep is mixed. Treat it as one small part of a wind-down routine, not a proven fix.
Auto Schedule¶
Does Auto Schedule use my location to work out sunset?¶
No. You set a Sunset Time and a Morning Time yourself in Settings → Schedule. Night Screen does not use or request your device's location.
Is Auto Schedule free?¶
No, it's a Pro feature. You can still use all three filter modes manually on the free plan.
What does Transition Duration do?¶
It controls how many hours after your Sunset Time the filter takes to reach Max Intensity, so it fades in gradually instead of switching on all at once.
What does Pause Until Tomorrow do?¶
It turns the scheduled filter off for the rest of the current period, without switching Auto Schedule off. It starts again automatically at the next Sunset Time.
Notifications¶
What is the persistent notification for?¶
Android requires a notification while an app keeps a service running in the background. Night Screen uses it to show that the filter is on, with a Stop button so you can turn it off in one tap.
Can I turn off the daily reminder?¶
Yes, in Settings → Notifications → Daily Reminder.
Pro¶
What does Pro unlock?¶
Auto Schedule, and it removes ads.
How do I buy Pro?¶
Tap the upgrade icon on the home screen and choose a monthly subscription, an annual subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase.
How do I restore a purchase?¶
Purchases are tied to your Google account. Open the upgrade screen and tap Restore Purchases, signed in to Google Play with the same account.
Are there ads?¶
Yes, on the free plan: a banner on the home screen, and an ad shown occasionally when you return to the App. Buying Pro removes them. See the Privacy Policy for what the ad SDKs collect.
Privacy¶
Does Night Screen know my location?¶
No. Night Screen never requests location access, for the schedule or anywhere else.
Does Night Screen need my camera, microphone or contacts?¶
No. It never asks for those permissions.
What data does Night Screen collect?¶
Ad and analytics data through Google's SDKs, and crash reports. Your filter settings, schedule times and screen content stay on your device. See the Privacy Policy for the full detail.
