User Guide¶
Everything AmpereFlow can do, and how to set it up.
Setting up¶
- Open AmpereFlow and step through the welcome screens
- Grant display over other apps when asked. This is what lets the Always On Display draw on top of your lock screen while you charge
- On the Details tab, turn on monitoring. This starts the background service that powers charging stats, battery health and the Always On Display
- A few features ask for their own permission the first time you turn them on: Notification Access for media controls and notification icons on the charging screen, and Usage Access for the Usage tab
If you decline a permission, only the feature that needs it is affected - everything else keeps working.
The five tabs¶
AmpereFlow is organised into five tabs along the bottom: Details, Design, History, Usage and Settings.
Details¶
The main screen. While monitoring is on, it shows your live battery percentage, charging current and estimated wattage, voltage and temperature.
- Charge Time - an estimate of how long until 80% and until full, based on the current rate
- Estimated Battery Life - how long the battery should last on the current usage, while discharging
- Where the Time Goes - how charging time is split across the 0-50% and higher ranges, since charging slows down near full
- Battery Health - an estimated health percentage and capacity compared with the battery's original capacity, with a history trend over time. This needs a charge of at least 20% to appear, and is most accurate after charging to 100%
- Charge at Each Battery Level - how many mAh other devices of your model hold at each level, based on reports from other AmpereFlow users, with a dot marking where your device sits
- Battery Care - short, practical notes on what actually ages a lithium battery: heat, time spent full, deep discharges and calibration
Tap Start Service / Turn on monitoring to enable the background service, or turn it off from the same button. Turning it off stops charging stats and the Always On Display until you turn it back on.
Design¶
Everything about how the Always On Display looks and behaves.
- Always On Display Activation - choose when the full-screen charging animation appears (for example, only when the device is locked and charging)
- Preview - open a full-screen preview of the current design without waiting to plug in
Style¶
- Clock style - the clock shown on the charging screen, or off
- Speedometer Style - the charging meter animation itself. There are dozens of styles; a handful are free and the rest are part of AmpereFlow Pro
- Battery Details Style - the layout of the stat row underneath the meter, with several free and Pro styles
- Colour and brightness - the meter's colour (including an automatic mode: green while charging, amber when plugged in but not charging, red on battery) and its brightness
What appears on screen¶
Toggle which elements show on the charging screen: battery details on the lock screen, watts instead of milliamps, percentage as the primary display, a more-info button, media player controls, notification icons, and quick torch and camera shortcuts.
Show Media Player Controls and Show Notifications on AOD need Notification Access, since AmpereFlow reads the currently playing media session and which apps have a notification waiting in order to show them. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what that permission does and does not read. Both are Pro features.
Behaviour¶
- Power Saving Mode - the animation rests after a period without a touch, to save power; set to Never to keep it running the whole time the screen is on
- Dim Screen After / Dim Level - dim the charging screen after a delay, for a dark room
- Hide Full Screen After - hide the charging screen automatically after a delay
- Hide On A Schedule - keep the charging screen from showing during set hours, for example overnight
- Double Tap to Exit - require a double tap to leave the full-screen view
- OLED Burn-In Protection - periodically shifts the screen contents to reduce the risk of burn-in on OLED displays
Format¶
Date format and 12- or 24-hour time, used across the app.
History¶
Past charging and discharge sessions, split into Charging and Discharging tabs.
- Tap a session to see its full charging curve and detail
- A daily chart shows charging activity by day
- Share any session's detail card as an image from the share button, which opens your device's normal share sheet
Charging Insights compares your recorded charging behaviour across chargers and sessions, so you can see which setup charges faster or more consistently.
Usage¶
Per-app screen time for today, plus a 7-day chart and your top app. This needs Android's Usage Access permission, which AmpereFlow asks for the first time you open this tab; you can also grant it later from Settings.
Widgets¶
Add a widget by long-pressing your home screen, choosing Widgets, and finding AmpereFlow.

A Pro widget you have not unlocked shows a locked state until you upgrade.
Settings¶
General¶
Theme (light, dark or system) and app language.
Units¶
Temperature unit (Celsius or Fahrenheit), and Dual Cell Battery Mode. Some dual-cell phones - many OnePlus, iQOO and Realme models - report half the real voltage, which makes charging wattage look like half of what your charger is actually delivering. Turn this on if that matches what you're seeing.
Alerts¶
- Battery Charging Limit - get notified when charging reaches a level you choose (50-100%)
- Battery Discharge Limit - get notified when the battery drops to a level you choose (0-50%)
- Battery Temperature Limit - get notified if battery temperature crosses a level you choose
- Alarm Sound - choose and preview the sound played for these alerts
- Notification Format - choose which readings (battery percentage, remaining time, amperes, charging time, time on battery) appear in the persistent notification
- Show on Lock Screen - show or hide that notification on the lock screen
- Hide/Show Notifications - opens AmpereFlow's notification settings in Android
System & permissions¶
- Additional Permission Required - on some device brands, Android alone isn't enough to keep AmpereFlow running reliably in the background; this opens a tutorial for your specific device
- Disable Battery Optimization - exempts AmpereFlow from Android's battery optimisation, so monitoring and the Always On Display keep working reliably. See Troubleshooting if the charging screen stops appearing
- Clear Charge History - permanently deletes all recorded charge cycles from your device

AmpereFlow Pro is available as a monthly subscription, an annual subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase, all billed through Google Play. If you've purchased Pro before, use Restore Purchase in Settings to restore it on a new device or after a reinstall.
