General¶
What is PDF Reader?¶
A free Android app for opening, reading and organising PDF files. Open a PDF from the App itself or from any other app, and PDF Reader keeps track of it, remembers your page, and lets you read several documents at once in tabs.
Which Android versions are supported?¶
Android 5.1 and later.
Is there an iOS version?¶
No. PDF Reader is Android only.
Is PDF Reader free?¶
Yes. It's free to use and supported by ads. There is no paid or Pro version.
Opening files¶
Does PDF Reader scan my phone for PDFs automatically?¶
No. You choose each file yourself, either through the App's own file picker or by opening a PDF from another app (a file manager, browser or email) and picking PDF Reader. The App does not browse or list the rest of your storage.
Can I make PDF Reader my default PDF app?¶
Yes. Choose PDF Reader (or tap "Always" instead of "Just once") the next time you open a PDF from another app, or set it from Android's Settings > Apps > Default apps.
Why did it ask for a permission the first time I opened a file?¶
On Android 9 and earlier, the App asks for storage permission before it opens the file picker. On Android 10 and later, no permission is needed. See Troubleshooting if it keeps asking.
Your library¶
What's the difference between Recents and Favorites?¶
Recents lists every PDF you've opened, most recent first. Favorites is a shorter list of files you've starred yourself, so you can find the ones you use often without scrolling.
Does PDF Reader remember which page I was on?¶
Yes, automatically, for every document. Reopen a file and it picks up where you left off.
Can I bookmark a specific page inside a document?¶
Not as a separate feature. PDF Reader automatically remembers the last page you were on in each PDF, and you can mark the whole file as a favourite for quick access. There's currently no way to save more than one page position in the same document.
Can I search inside my PDFs?¶
The search box on the main screen searches file names, not the text inside your PDFs.
Tabs¶
How many PDFs can I have open at once?¶
There's no fixed number in the App; it depends on your device.
Does closing a tab delete the file?¶
No. Closing a tab only removes it from your open tabs. The file stays in your Recents list and on your device.
Password-protected PDFs¶
I opened a protected PDF. Where does the password go?¶
It's stored on your device only, so PDF Reader can reopen that file without asking again. It's never sent anywhere. See the Privacy Policy.
What if I enter the wrong password?¶
You'll be asked to enter it again.
Privacy¶
Does PDF Reader read what's inside my PDFs?¶
No, beyond rendering the page for you to view. The App doesn't analyse, index or transmit the content of your documents.
Do my files ever leave my device?¶
Only if you tap Share, which sends the file to whichever app you choose. Otherwise your PDFs stay on your device.
Does PDF Reader show ads?¶
Yes, through Google AdMob. See the Privacy Policy for what that involves.
Do I need an account?¶
No. There is no sign-in.
