General¶

What is Action Notch?¶

An app that turns your phone's notch or camera cutout into a touch shortcut. Assign an action to a tap, double tap, long press or swipe, and Action Notch runs it whenever you touch the notch.

Which Android versions are supported?¶

Android 7.0 and later.

My phone doesn't have a notch. Can I still use it?¶

Yes. Turn on Custom Notch Position in the Home screen to place and size the touch area yourself instead of relying on a detected cutout.

Does it work on foldable phones?¶

Yes. The Main screen and the Cover screen each keep their own notch position and size, and Disable When No Notch Detected is there for a foldable's inner screen, which often has no cutout at all.

Is there an iOS version?¶

No. Action Notch is Android only.

Gestures and actions¶

Why do only some gestures work?¶

Single Touch, Double Touch and Long Touch are free. Swipe Left, Swipe Right and swipe-and-hold need Action Notch Pro.

Why does an action ask for a permission?¶

Some actions need an Android permission to work — Camera for silent photo and video, Microphone for silent audio, Contacts for Call a Contact, and so on. Action Notch asks for it only when you assign that specific action, not up front.

What happens if I refuse a permission?¶

Only the action that needed it stops working; everything else you've set up keeps running.

Can I change what a gesture does later?¶

Yes, at any time from the Home screen.

What's Rule-Based Actions?¶

A Pro feature that runs a different action for a gesture depending on your device's state — an app being open, media playing, headphones connected, the device charging, or a call. See the User Guide.

Dynamic Widgets¶

What is Dynamic Widgets?¶

A small widget deck you open with a gesture, with cards for Quick Controls (brightness and volume), Media, a Timer, a Stopwatch, Search and the Notch Bounce game. It's a Pro feature.

Why is the Media card empty?¶

It needs notification access so Action Notch can read the currently playing track. Grant it from the card's own prompt, or check it under Troubleshooting.

Does the Timer keep running if I close the deck?¶

Yes. It keeps counting in the background with a notification you can pause, resume or stop from.

Notch Mirror¶

No. It's a live camera preview only — Action Notch does not take, save or share a photo or video through it.

Why won't Notch Mirror open?¶

It needs a front-facing camera and the Camera permission. If another app is already using the camera, Notch Mirror will tell you it's busy.

Privacy¶

Does the accessibility service read my screen?¶

No. Action Notch uses it to detect touches on the notch, to know which app is in the foreground (for Blacklisted Apps and Rule-Based Actions), and to trigger system actions like a screenshot or opening Recents. It does not read or store the text or content of your screen. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Where are my recordings and notes stored?¶

On your device only. Recordings appear on the Storage tab and notes on the Notes tab; neither is uploaded anywhere by Action Notch.

Does the app track what I do?¶

Action Notch uses Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics. See exactly what's recorded in the Privacy Policy.

Pro¶

What does Pro unlock?¶

Swipe Left, Swipe Right and swipe-and-hold gestures, Notch Mirror, Dynamic Widgets, the AI Assistant action, Rule-Based Actions, a handful of other actions (see the User Guide), and an ad-free app.

How do I restore a purchase?¶

Purchases are tied to your Google account. Open the upgrade screen and use Restore Purchases, signed in with the same account you purchased with.
