Troubleshooting¶
The floating button won't appear¶
- Confirm Accessibility Service is turned on: Android Settings → Accessibility → find Action Dot and toggle it on
- Reopen Action Dot after enabling it
- Check Blacklisted Apps in Settings — the button hides itself in any app on that list
- Check whether Disable in Landscape Mode, Disable on Call or Disable on Lock Screen is switched on and matches your current situation
The accessibility service keeps turning itself off¶
Aggressive battery management is the usual cause, and it is common on Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Realme, OnePlus, Huawei and Samsung devices.
- Open Action Dot → Settings → Disable Battery Optimization, and follow the prompt
- Android Settings → Apps → Action Dot → Battery → set battery usage to Unrestricted
- Lock the app in your recents list if your launcher supports it
- On Xiaomi, also enable Autostart for Action Dot
An action does nothing when triggered¶
Almost always a missing permission or special access.
| Action(s) | Needs |
|---|---|
| Home, Back, Recent Apps, Notifications, Quick Settings, Power Menu, Screenshot, Scroll to Top/Bottom | Accessibility Service turned on |
| Silent Photo, Silent Video (front or rear camera), Scan QR Code | Camera permission |
| Silent Audio Recording, video with microphone audio | Microphone permission |
| Screen Recording with device or microphone audio | Microphone permission (device audio needs Android 10 or later) |
| Call a Contact | Contacts permission |
| Toggle Brightness, Dim/Brighten Screen, Toggle Auto-Rotate | Modify System Settings (granted from a system screen, not a popup) |
| Toggle Sound/Vibrate, Toggle Do Not Disturb | Notification Policy Access (Do Not Disturb access) |
| Choose Apps: Most Used / Recently Used | Usage Access |
| Disable on Call setting | Phone State permission |
Open the action's own setup again, or the relevant permission card on the Permissions screen, and it will prompt for whatever is missing.
Screen recording or a silent recording has no sound¶
- For Screen Recording, check the audio option is not set to No audio recording
- Record only device audio needs Android 10 or later, and some apps block their own audio from being captured
- Record surrounding audio needs the microphone permission
Choose Apps shows nothing, or the wrong apps¶
- Most Used and Recently Used need Usage Access granted from Android Settings
- Custom Selected only shows apps you've picked yourself in that action's setup
- Recently installed apps can take a moment before they appear in usage history
A recording is missing from the Media tab¶
- Open Action Dot's Media tab directly rather than searching your gallery — files are also scanned into your device's regular Gallery/Photos app, which can take a moment
- Confirm the recording finished rather than being interrupted; check for a "Failed to save file" message at the time
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or Airplane Mode toggles just open a settings screen¶
This is expected on newer Android versions. Android no longer lets apps switch these directly, so Action Dot opens the relevant system panel or settings screen for you to flip the switch yourself.
