Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is Action Dot?

A floating button for Android that puts Home, Back, Recent Apps, screenshots and 40+ other actions one tap away, without needing your phone's hardware buttons. Tap it, touch and hold it, or open its menu.

Which Android versions are supported?

Android 7.0 and later.

Is there an iOS version?

No. Action Dot is Android only.

Why does the app ask for Accessibility Service?

Action Dot's floating button, and actions like Home, Back, Recent Apps, Notifications, Quick Settings, the Power Menu and Screenshot, are only possible through Android's Accessibility Service — there is no other API for them. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what the service does and does not do.

The floating button and menu

How do I trigger an action?

Tap the dot for your Single Touch action, or touch and hold it for your Long Touch action. If a touch is not assigned to a specific action, it opens the menu instead.

Can I move the button?

Yes. Drag it anywhere on screen. Turn on Floating Button Position → Snap floating button to edge in Look & Feel to have it settle against the nearest edge when you let go.

What's the difference between the two menu styles?

The 3x3 grid opens as a small floating radial menu near the button. The 4x3 grid opens as a bottom sheet. Both support multiple pages of actions, and you switch between them from Look & Feel → Grid Size.

The dot disappeared. Where did it go?

Check whether the app you're in is on your Blacklisted Apps list, or whether Disable in Landscape Mode, Disable on Call or Disable on Lock Screen is active. See Troubleshooting if none of those explain it.

Actions

How many actions are there?

40+, covering navigation, capture and recording, media and sound, device controls, and utilities. See the full list in the User Guide.

Why does an action ask for a permission?

Some actions are only possible with an Android permission or special access, such as Camera for silent photo capture or Usage Access for the Most Used / Recently Used app lists. Action Dot asks only when you add that specific action.

What happens if I refuse a permission?

Only the action that needed it is affected. Everything else keeps working.

What is "Silent" photo or video?

It captures from the front or rear camera without showing an on-screen camera preview first. It is saved to your device the same as any photo or video you take normally.

Can I trigger an action without opening the app?

Yes, two ways: create an Action Dot Actions home screen shortcut for a single action, or use Run Automation to trigger Tasker, MacroDroid, Automate or another automation app.

Privacy

Does the accessibility service read my screen?

No. It cannot retrieve window content from other apps. It calls Android's own system actions (like Home and Back), simulates a swipe for Scroll to Top/Bottom, and tracks only which app is in the foreground, kept in memory, to support the Blacklisted Apps list. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Are my recordings uploaded anywhere?

No. Screenshots, screen recordings, and silent photo, video and audio captures are saved to your device only, and shown in the app's own Media tab. Nothing is uploaded to us.

Does Action Dot use analytics?

Yes, Firebase Analytics, which is on in the released app by default. It records events about the app's own screens, such as viewing the upgrade screen or completing a purchase — never your recordings, your contacts, or which actions you use. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-in, and we run no server for your recordings or settings.

Pro

What does Pro unlock?

Every action, including Choose Apps (Most Used, Recently Used and Custom Selected), Open App Activity (Advanced), Scan QR Code, rear-camera silent photo and video, Silent Audio Recording, Next Track, Previous Track and Toggle Sound/Vibrate, plus every colour and icon style, and it removes ads.

Are there ads?

Yes, in the free version, shown inside Action Dot's own screens. Ads never appear in the floating button or its menus, and Pro removes them entirely.

How do I restore a purchase?

Purchases are tied to your Google account. Open Settings → Restore Purchase, signed in with the same Google account you purchased with.
