Troubleshooting

Accessibility Service keeps turning itself off

This is almost always aggressive battery management, and it's common on Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Realme, OnePlus, Huawei and Samsung phones.

  1. Open SafeCam's Settings and tap Disable Battery Optimization; Android opens its full app battery list, so find SafeCam in it and set it to unrestricted
  2. On Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Realme and similar phones, also check the manufacturer's own battery or auto-start manager, since it runs on top of Android's own battery rules
  3. Lock SafeCam in your recent apps list if your phone supports it
  4. Turn Accessibility Service back on from Android Settings → Accessibility

A trigger doesn't do anything when I use it

Almost always a missing permission or Accessibility Service being off.

  1. Open the action from the Home screen and check it's assigned to the trigger you're using; a new assignment overrides an old one
  2. Confirm Accessibility Service is still on in Android Settings → Accessibility
  3. Reopen the action's setup screen; it will prompt again for any permission that's missing

A recording stops on its own or cuts out early

By default, every recording action stops itself after 5 minutes. If a recording stops before its timer, your phone's battery manager may be closing SafeCam in the background, not a limit inside the App itself.

  1. Check that action's Auto-stop recording setting; the default is 5 minutes, and a shorter timer than you expect will end the recording early. Choose Never to remove the limit
  2. Follow the steps under Accessibility Service keeps turning itself off above
  3. Confirm you have enough free storage on your device

No sound in my screen recording

Open the Screen Recording action's settings and check the audio option: No audio recording, Record only device audio, or Record surrounding audio. Device audio needs Android 10 or later, and surrounding audio needs the microphone permission.

The floating icon has disappeared

  1. Open the action you assigned to the floating icon and confirm it's still assigned to at least one tap type; the icon hides itself if nothing is assigned
  2. Confirm Accessibility Service is still on
  3. If it's stuck off-screen, turn Accessibility Service off and back on in Android Settings; that's what resets the icon to its starting position. Reassigning its action doesn't move it

A Quick Settings tile or shortcut does nothing

Both route through Accessibility Service, so if it's off, tiles and shortcuts do nothing even though they still appear. Turn Accessibility Service back on in Android Settings, then try the tile or shortcut again.

Screen recording won't start

Android shows its own "Start recording or casting?" prompt every time you start Screen Recording. If you tap Cancel, or your phone's screen recording policy blocks it, the recording doesn't start. Try again and choose Start now or Allow.

I can't find a recording I made

  1. Open the Media tab; every recording SafeCam makes is listed there, grouped as one library
  2. Check the action's Enable Notifications setting was on, then look for the "file saved" notification and tap it to jump straight to the file
  3. If you saved a copy to your gallery, check the SafeCam folder inside your phone's DCIM, Pictures or Music folder instead
