Privacy Policy

Effective Date: September 2026

Thank you for using SafeCam (the "App"), provided by Androxus ("we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what the App collects, what it does not, and what you can switch off.

Overview

SafeCam records video, photos, audio or your screen only when you trigger one of its actions, and saves the result on your device. It shows ads and uses Firebase for analytics and crash reporting.

The short version:

  • SafeCam never uploads your recordings. It has no server of its own. A recording leaves your device only if you share it, or save a copy to your gallery and your gallery backs it up
  • Every recording action requires Accessibility Service. We explain exactly what that service does, and does not do, below
  • Ads run through Google AdMob, shown on the free plan, and stop completely once you buy Pro
  • Analytics and crash reporting are active by default in the published App; there is no in-app switch for either
  • No accounts, no sign-in, and we run no server of our own
  • Your settings, action-to-trigger mappings and recordings stay on your device

What SafeCam records, and where it goes

Action What it captures Uploaded anywhere?
Silently Record Front/Back Camera Video with sound from the microphone. These actions need both the camera and microphone permissions and always record sound No
Silently Capture Front/Back Image A photo No
Record Audio Audio from the microphone only No
Screen Recording Your screen, plus device or microphone audio if you choose No

Files are saved on your device, in SafeCam's own folder in your phone's shared storage, with a time-stamped filename, and are deleted when you uninstall the App. This folder isn't encrypted. On older Android versions (Android 10 and earlier), other apps with storage permission can read it and your gallery app may list recordings saved there. From the Media tab you can play, rename, delete or share any file, or save a copy into a SafeCam folder inside your phone's DCIM, Pictures or Music folder, at which point it's visible to your gallery and any other app like any other photo, video or audio file. Outside of that action, the App itself never sends a recording anywhere, and we never see or receive a copy of it.

On Android 12 and later, Android shows an indicator in the status bar whenever the camera or microphone is in use, and the App cannot hide it. Android 11 and earlier have no such indicator. Screen Recording always shows a notification while it runs. For the camera, photo and audio actions, SafeCam's own notification is on by default but can be turned off in that action's settings; when it is off, Android's indicator (on Android 12 and later) is the only on-screen sign of a recording.

Permissions and special access

Permission Used for What happens to the data
Camera Silent camera recording and photo capture actions Used live to record or capture; stays on your device
Microphone Silent audio recording, the audio track of camera recordings, and Screen Recording's device/microphone audio option. Screen Recording asks for this permission during setup even if you choose No audio recording Used live to record; stays on your device
Notifications The recording status, stop and file-saved notifications, and the rating-reminder notification No data collected
Storage (Android 9 and earlier) Saving recordings and copying them to your phone's gallery Files stay on your device
Accessibility Service Runs every trigger: the floating icon, notch/status bar gestures, shake, volume-key triggers, home screen shortcuts and Quick Settings tiles See Accessibility Service access below
Phone state Read only when Disable on Call is turned on, to pause triggers while an incoming call is ringing through to when it ends. Doesn't cover calls you place yourself, and Quick Settings tiles and shortcuts aren't covered even during a call Only whether a call is active is read, and on Android 8.1 and earlier the incoming caller's number, which the App ignores; nothing is stored or sent anywhere
Foreground service, foreground service media projection Lets Screen Recording keep running with a visible notification, including with the screen off No data collected by the permission itself
Vibrate Haptic feedback when a trigger fires No data collected
Advertising ID Added to the App by the Google Mobile Ads library, for ad measurement and personalisation See Advertising below
Ad Services APIs (Android 13 and later) Added to the App by the Google Mobile Ads library, for Android's Privacy Sandbox advertising APIs See Advertising below
Installed launcher apps Read on your device to build the app list in Black Listed Apps Stays on your device
Motion sensor Read while Accessibility Service is on, to detect a shake trigger Not stored; see Accessibility Service access below
Display over other apps Declared by the App Not currently used: the floating icon and gesture overlay are drawn through Accessibility Service's own overlay capability, and the App does not prompt you to grant this permission
Modify system settings, Do Not Disturb access Declared by the App Not currently connected to a feature you can turn on from SafeCam's own settings
Internet Ads, analytics, crash reporting and verifying purchases with Google Play See the sections below; never used to send a recording

Accessibility Service access

Every trigger in SafeCam, the floating icon, the notch or status bar gesture, shake detection, the volume-key triggers, home screen shortcuts and Quick Settings tiles, runs through SafeCam's Accessibility Service. Camera and audio recordings also run inside this service, which is how they keep going with the screen off. Without it turned on, none of the triggers can start or stop a recording.

We want to be precise here, because accessibility access is powerful and you deserve the exact picture rather than a reassuring summary.

What it does:

  • Runs whichever action you've assigned to the tap, swipe, shake, volume-key press, shortcut or tile you used
  • Draws the optional floating icon, and the invisible touch area over your notch or status bar, using an overlay type reserved for active accessibility services
  • Receives your phone's hardware key presses before other apps do (key-event filtering). It acts only on Volume Up and Volume Down, and only when you've assigned an action to that key: a long press runs the action and a short press changes media volume. Every other key is passed on unchanged and is not recorded
  • Reads which app is currently in the foreground, only to compare it against your own Blacklisted Apps list
  • Reads the phone's motion sensor while the service is on, to detect a shake. Sensor readings are not stored
  • Opens your notification shade when you swipe down over the notch/status bar gesture area
  • Can pause a trigger while you're on a call, if you've turned on Disable on Call

What the service configuration declares:

  • Key-event filtering (canRequestFilterKeyEvents), used only for the volume-key triggers described above
  • Four capabilities the App does not use, all declared as true: reading the content of windows on screen (canRetrieveWindowContent, with view IDs reported), taking screenshots (canTakeScreenshot), asking Android to turn on Explore by Touch (canRequestTouchExplorationMode), and performing taps and swipes on your behalf (canPerformGestures)

What it does not do:

  • The App does not call the screen-content, screenshot, touch-exploration or gesture APIs that those declared capabilities would allow
  • It does not read, log, store or transmit the content of your screen, your notifications, text from other apps, or the keys you press
  • The only thing it reads from other apps is which one is currently in the foreground, and only to check it against your Blacklist

You can revoke Accessibility access at any time in Android Settings. Every trigger stops working until you turn it back on; your existing recordings and settings are unaffected.

Advertising

The App shows ads through Google AdMob on the free plan: a banner at the bottom of the main screen, an app-open ad when you switch back into SafeCam, and a full-screen ad when you return from viewing a recording in the built-in player. On the free plan the App also loads a rewarded video ad in the background; the current version doesn't show it. Ads stop appearing completely once you buy Pro.

The Mobile Ads SDK starts whenever the App starts, including in the background when Android starts SafeCam's Accessibility Service, for example after your phone restarts, and on the free plan the App requests ads from that point. This can happen before you have opened the App or answered a consent form. Where Google determines its consent rules apply, for example in the EEA and UK, the App shows Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) consent form when you open it, for you to make choices about ad personalisation. On Pro the SDK still starts, but the App requests no ads.

AdMob may receive your advertising ID, device and app information, IP address, and your interactions with ads. See the Google Privacy Policy and how Google uses data from partner apps.

Analytics

The App uses Firebase Analytics, active by default in the published App, with no in-app switch to turn it off.

Firebase Analytics automatically records standard events in every app that uses it, such as the first time you open the App, sessions and time in the App, app updates, in-app purchases, ad impressions and screen views. A screen view records which of the App's screens was shown, for example the Home screen, Settings, the built-in media player, or the screen SafeCam opens to ask Android's permission when you start a Screen Recording.

The App also logs these events of its own:

Event Meaning
whats_new_dialog_shown The "What's New" dialog was shown after an update
feedback_card_shown The in-app rating/feedback card was shown on the Home screen
feedback_notification_shown The rating-reminder notification was shown
support_screen_open The Upgrade to Pro screen was opened
purchase_button_tapped You tapped the purchase button on the Upgrade screen
purchased_successfully A purchase completed
purchase_acknowledged_later A purchase was confirmed with Google Play slightly after the fact
invalid_purchase_signature A purchase failed the App's local signature check
inside_grace_period / grace_period_over A local check of whether a subscription is still within its grace period, with which product type
disableOnCallClicked / disableOnCallActivated You tapped, then successfully turned on, Disable on Call
Accessibility service instrumentation The Accessibility Service connected, or you tapped Agree on its permission dialog

No event, automatic or custom, contains the content or the name of any recording, photo or file. Firebase also collects standard information such as an app instance identifier, your advertising ID, how the App was installed, device model, operating system version and approximate country from your IP address.

Crash reporting

The App uses Firebase Crashlytics in the published App to record crashes and handled errors, active by default. A crash report contains the stack trace, device model, operating system version and app state at the time. It does not contain your recordings.

Crash reporting is not currently exposed as a user-facing toggle. If you would prefer not to send crash reports, contact us.

Remote configuration

The App includes the Firebase Remote Config library, but the current version doesn't fetch or use any remote settings.

Purchases

If you buy SafeCam Pro, the transaction is handled entirely by Google Play. We never see or receive your payment details. The App verifies your purchase with Play, and checks the cryptographic signature Google Play attaches to it, on your device. See the Google Play Privacy Policy.

What's stored on your device

  • Your action-to-trigger mappings, and each action's quality, audio and auto-stop settings
  • Your Blacklisted Apps list
  • Your recordings, until you delete them or uninstall the App
  • Whether you've purchased Pro, and related purchase timing used to check your subscription locally

Data we don't collect

To be explicit, SafeCam does not collect, store off device, or transmit to us:

  • The video, photo or audio content of any recording you make
  • Screen content (a Screen Recording you start is saved only on your device)
  • Your contacts or files
  • Your name, email address or any account identity

Your choices

What Where
Remove ads entirely Buy SafeCam Pro
Ad consent (where Google requires it) The form appears when you open the App. There's no in-app setting to change it later; clearing the App's storage in Android Settings resets it, but also deletes your recordings, so save copies first
Revoke Accessibility, camera, microphone or any other permission Android Settings → Apps → SafeCam
Turn off SafeCam's own start/stop notification for camera, photo or audio actions (Screen Recording always shows one) That action's own settings
Delete a recording Media tab → Delete
Delete everything Uninstall the App, or clear app data in Android Settings

Because we hold no account and run no server, there is no profile of you for us to export or erase. Data held by Google as a result of ads, analytics, crash reporting or purchases is subject to Google's own controls.

Children's Privacy

SafeCam is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. Significant changes will be reflected here and in the release notes on Google Play. The effective date at the top shows when it was last revised.
