Troubleshooting¶
Floating video doesn't appear¶
- Confirm Playback has the "display over other apps" permission: Android Settings → Apps → Playback → Display over other apps
- If it's off, turn it on and try again - Playback also shows its own permission prompt the first time you tap Floating video
- Make sure something is actually playing first; Floating video needs active playback to start
Playback stops when I lock the screen or switch apps¶
This is almost always aggressive battery management, which is common on Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Realme, OnePlus, Huawei and Samsung devices.
- Android Settings → Apps → Playback → Battery
- Set battery usage to Unrestricted
- Lock the app in your recents list if your launcher supports it
- On Xiaomi, also enable Autostart for Playback
No sound, or the video is muted¶
- Check your device's media volume, not just ringer volume
- Some sites start videos muted by default; Playback tries to unmute automatically once a page finishes loading, but a site can override this
- Try tapping the video's own mute/unmute control on the page
YouTube still pauses with "Continue watching?"¶
Playback dismisses this prompt automatically, but only on youtube.com - it doesn't act on similar prompts from other sites. If it's still interrupting playback on YouTube itself, force-close and reopen Playback, and make sure you're on the latest version from Google Play.
A local video file won't open or play¶
- Confirm the file is a video format your device's browser engine supports; not every codec or container plays back on every device
- Try picking the file again from Files on the home screen
- A local file's Favorite, Share and History options are intentionally unavailable, since it isn't a web page
Google Drive backup isn't working¶
- Confirm you're connected to the internet, and to Wi-Fi if automatic backup is set to Wi-Fi only (Settings → Backup & Restore)
- If the backup screen shows a reconnect notice, your Google Drive access has expired - tap to reconnect and pick your account again
- Tap Back up now to run a backup immediately rather than waiting for the automatic schedule
The playback notification or reminder notifications don't appear¶
Check that Playback has notification permission: Android Settings → Apps → Playback → Notifications. Without it, the playback controls and reminder notifications can't be shown, though playback itself still works.
A search or web address doesn't load¶
- Check your internet connection
- Confirm the address is correct, or try switching your default search platform in Settings → Search Platform
- Some sites block being opened outside their own official app or a full desktop browser; try Desktop mode from the in-page menu
